Residential Service: Trucks will be slow today until it warms up a bit, we have pushed back our start time today until 9:30am. We will NOT be running any yard waste service this week. Residents services days for the remainder of the week will be run like a holiday week, so each service day will roll forward one day. Please be patient and unless it is of the utmost importance do not call to ask if we are going to pick them up. Phones are extremely backed up with long hold times. Residents who are having a hard time getting through on the phones can use the http://www.republicservices.com/site/east-mo-south-il/en/pages/home.aspx web site and leave a message in the contact us section, these requests will also be answered before end of business day.
The Velda City Police Department would like to remind everyone that with inclement winter weather here and the first winter storm of the year, parking on the designated snow routes around the city is strictly prohibited. The snow routes are strictly enforced and must remain clear in order for them to be cleared effectively. Owners of vehicles left on snow routes will be ticketed and towed without warning.
Due to the extremely low temperatures over the next few days, the Velda City Police Department would like to remind you that pets need to be brought indoors. Temperatures will be the lowest that they have been in the last 20 years and extremely dangerous to animals as well as people. During this time, the Velda City Police Department will take a Zero Tolerance stance on animals that have been neglected and left outdoors. Per city ordinance 210.200, owners or person(s) in custody of an animal can face a fine and/or jail time if they fail to provide adequate care or adequate control, which results in substantial harm to the animal.
Please keep your pets indoors during inclement weather. If you see an animal left outdoors please report it to the Velda City Police Department ASAP.
Thank you for your help in keeping pets safe.
