K-9 Unit

Velda City Police (MO) K-9 V3The Velda City Police K-9 Unit is currently staffed by 1 police officer and 1 canine. The canine is available on a 24-hour basis to assist with searching for evidence, tracking suspects, locating missing persons and seeking hidden narcotics.

In October of 2013, The Velda City Police Department revived the K-9 Unit. The K-9 Unit received a grant for its current canine, Zoey, a female Dutch Shepherd.

The unit is certified with two nationally recognized organizations (North American Police Work Dog Association & National Police Canine Association) and one state recognized organization (Missouri Police Canine Association). The canine and handler spend countless hours working together and training in order to become efficient partners. The canine and handler also receive ongoing training after they have become “partners” in order to provide the best possible service to the department. Canines play an important role in both solving and preventing crimes.
